Cars & Coast (carsandcoast.com), a free live map of Monterey Car Week and the Big Sur coast, launches publicly today — two days before Car Week 2026 opens with race cars lining Alvarado Street.
Built independently on the Monterey Peninsula, Cars & Coast puts the whole week on one live map: the verified event schedule for August 7–16, live road closures and CHP incidents, real-time traffic flow, the county's new Bixby Bridge parking ban drawn to its exact ordinance limits, and more than 30 live data layers — from webcams and wildfire lookout cameras to ships, planes, tides and surf. It works in any phone browser: no app, nothing to pay, and no account needed to use the map — the features that do use one, like saved maps and the Car Spotter game, are free too.
The free side of an expensive week. Car Week's marquee tickets run from $650 for the Concours d'Elegance to several thousand for The Quail. The launch includes carsandcoast.com/free — a map and day-by-day list of more than 20 events that are genuinely free to attend. Every "free" claim links to the event's own page, and a "Looks free, isn't" section calls out the ticketed events people mistake for open ones.
The week's logistics, live. County road closures in red, scheduled closures in pink, live congestion on every road, CHP incidents as they're dispatched, and Caltrans highway cameras one tap away (/livetraffic). A separate enforcement layer draws where Car Week gets policed — patrol zones, license-plate readers, the Bixby no-parking zone with a safe alternative at Hurricane Point — every zone linking its official source.
A collection game played on real streets. Spectators photograph the exotics they find; an AI vision model verifies make and model and awards the catch — F40, 250 GTO, Porsche 917 among 50 legends and rarities. The map fills with everyone's sightings as the week unfolds.
"Car Week is two different weeks depending on what you know," said George Krieger, the Monterey Peninsula photographer who built Cars & Coast. "If you know which events are free, which roads are about to close, and where you can legally stop on Highway 1, it's the best week of the year. The map is everything I wish visitors knew, kept live."
